An easy sell for the latest fitness crazes, I like to explore all the boutique workout trends DC has to offer. After discussing Bravo’s Tone It Up TV series with my girlfriends, I came to the conclusion that if the before and after photos featured on their website held any truth, it was worth a try – I was pleasantly surprised.
While I’m not fully engrossed in their 8 week bikini program, I’ve chosen a few pieces here and there to get my toes wet. Check out my conclusion below. I invite you to give some of the #TIU routines and recipes a try and tell me what you think.
These girls have built an empire – I’ve really loved becoming part of their #TIU community. Follow them on Instagram to see what it’s all about, @KarenaKatrina.
- Workouts are short. My favorite so far is the morning Bootycall routine; only 31 minutes but will have you dripping in sweat. A morning HITT (high intensity interval training) workout, this video gets your metabolism roaring and burns more fat than a workout saved for later in the day.
- Bombshell Spell. This is a drink that you make every morning that promises to increase your metabolism, provide digestive enzymes, energize you & taste refreshing. Trust me, I never buy into these types of “potions”, until now… I LOVE this concoction. Seems high in sugar, but I promise you, you will feel the added energy, the bounce in your step, and the satisfaction of knowing that you did something healthy and positive for your body.
1/2 cup pure organic pineapple juice
1 squeeze honey
1 healthy squeeze of lime
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
ICE ICE & more ICE
- Stevia: Stevia is the natural sugar of choice used in their protein powder which is the base for many of their recipes that would otherwise be filled with sugar and carbs. I suggest trying their recipes which use a combination of coconut flour and protein powder like their Blueberry Zest Muffins to avoid that chemical-like taste you get from Stevia.
- The nutrition program for the 8 week bikini series is effective and delicious – but time consuming. Each day consists of multiple recipes that require planning, prep and specific ingredients. My recommendation is to look through the suggested menus and understand the method of eating and types of foods they are proposing. Then, integrate that eating style into your existing routine using foods and dishes that you typically eat.
