Making exercise fun is key to sticking to it. I’m on a quest to try out all the boutique fitness trends that DC has to offer and reviewing them to give you all the latest and greatest information on where to get a kick-ass workout. Yesterday, I took a POUND rock out workout – a drummer’s dream. The promise is a 45 minute full body cardio jam session burning between 400 and 900 calorie using infrequently used muscles to tone and sculpt your body.
In true drummer fashion, you get a set of weighted drum sticks called Ripstix to bang the ground during 2-4 minutes songs with varying speed intervals. By the end, they claim you’ve done 15,000 reps, performed over 30 extended interval peaks, and zipped through over 70 techniques.
SO, was it a good workout? Drumroll please…..
I give it a 7 out of 10. The level of difficulty and calories burned really depends on the teacher and intensity of the class. The class focusses on squats, lunches abs and booty. I definitely got a good sweat going and feel a bit sore today; however, I would have welcomed a bit more “double time” sequences to make the short class a bit more worth it. That said, you’ll definitely have fun and release some stress banging the floor and tossing some attitude around with the help of a neon strobe light in the dark.
Buyers be ware: I chose to take the class at Balance gym Foggy Bottom which is located inside the Fairmont Hotel. I found it to be a little odd and dingy so I’d suggest you try one the Glover Park or Thomas Circle.
Good luck finding your inner musician!
