Post college, we all say goodbye to those friends who are off to challenge the world in other cities. This is our first reality check that those sidekicks that feel like family, may not always live in your apartment, your quad, your campus or even your city. Now, entering me 30’s, my tribe is smaller and the distance between us is greater. I”m comfortable knowing who sits in my inner circle, I love that they are my “people” – they are the ones who will see me through life, make me better, challenge me, and make me face truths. Unfortunately, my tribe is splattered all across the country, each of us calling a different zip code home.
Seeing the glass half full, this gives us opportunity to get creative in our efforts to stay in touch and be healthy. Everyone knows working out with a friend is better than working out alone. You are more motivated, push one another, not to mention you get the added benefit of social interaction and laughter. So don’t let a few thousand miles stand between you and your bestie from grabbing a quick work out together.
The Fabulous Virtual Sweat Sess:
- You and a friend, zip code agnostic, choose a favorite work out to try today. Maybe it’s a treadmill routine, a barre class, yoga, spin – anything you want.
- Pick a time, and complete the workout together, in your respective gym/studio/homes.
- Check in with each other after. Try chatting on the phone while each grabbing an ice coffee or maybe you make smoothies and sip away will face timing. Whatever you choose, give the two of you (or 3 or 4 or 5 of you) a chance to catch up and spend time together.
- Rinse. Repeat. And enjoy the euphoric glow you only get after you spend time with your girl friends.
